2023 FilAm Creative Leadership Retreat (Part 1)

Last Sunday, January 29th was the first of two FilAm Creative Leadership Retreats for the 2023 FAC Executive Board at noontime.

(From L to R): Walter Tabayoyong, Joel Handler, Marvin Aritrangco, Jucevi Virtudes, Angel Quinsay, Mark LaBella, Rovyn Bautista, Edwin Santos, Lyndon Apostol, Anthea Neri Best, Karina Cornejo and Didi Caneda.

In attendance were Mark LaBella (Executive Director), Didi Caneda (Secretary), Angel Quinsay (Treasurer), Edwin Santos (Social Media Director), Lyndon Apostol (Director of Live Events & Performances), Marvin Aritrangco (Director of Culinary Arts), Walter Tabayoyong (Historian), Karina Cornejo (Auditor), Anthea Neri Best (Director of Films & Festivals), Jucevi Virtudes (Director of Charity Partnerships) and Rovyn Bautista (Director of Fundraising).

Special guest Joel Handler was present and was introduced as the new Director of Career Development (Screenwriting). He replaced Michael Gemballa due to his busy schedule on “S.W.A.T.” So Gemballa became one of the advisors for FilAm Creative.

In the beginning of the session, LaBella created specific goals that are measurable and attainable for each director but not set in stone. The plan spent thirty minutes per officer, one on one, discussing those goals, how we can attain them, and what we can change to fit their schedules. Then we adjourned for lunch.

Our potluck was beautifully designed (set & lighting, too) and assembled together by Chef Aritrangco that this Social Media Director regretted not bringing his camera. Because it deserves to be preserved in photos that should be posted for this blog.

After our potluck, we resumed to the last tasks at hand which included the more detailed discussions about our upcoming events such as our new FilAm Creative Film Festival and the returning Filipino Hollywood Actors Panel and Network & Create Potluck events, among many others, and how each department can assist and collaborate with other departments to create, promote and operate our events smoothly.

After our session, a few of us celebrated with a karaoke afterparty and then we went to see and support our Director of Music Dale Edward Chung featuring guitarist Jordan Hemphill who performed live-in-person, a week before the upcoming 65th Annual Grammy Awards on February 5th.

“Thank you everyone that came to my show today! Special Props to the FilAm Creative crew and all the friends old and new that hung out with us! You made it so much fun! Thank you (FAC BOD) Rex (Sampaga) and Ed (Mallillin) for having me. I’ll be back in March!” said Dale Edward Chung.

FilAm Creative and Rise & Shine presents FAC(E) Time: Latin Grammy winner Dale Edward Chung ft. guitarist Jordan Hemphill on stage with FilAm Creative and new friends at Brewyard Beer Company in Glendale, CA.

FilAm Creative in conjunction with FilAm Creative’s Rise & Shine program, presented FAC(E) Time, a monthly program presenting Fil-Am & Asian talent at the Brewyard Beer Company in Glendale, and last month was Latin Grammy winner, Dale Edward Chung. There we met and networked with new friends in both the creative artist and social justice fields.

After the FAC(E) Time performance of Dale Edward Chung at Brewyard, he joined a few of the attendees back at the retreat for session updates and more karaoke!

This Sunday on February 5th is the second of two FilAm Creative Leadership Retreats for the 2023 FAC Executive Board for those who couldn’t attend the first one in January. A few of the attendees from the first retreat will return. And, this Social Media Director will not forget his camera…
